Enemies

I love this episode because it shows for the first time that Angel and Angelus can exist at the same time. Okay, he only *pretends* to have no soul and he feels pretty bad about this. But he gives a perfect performance. So it's not that Angel and Angelus are two totally different beings, Angelus is there, even if Angel has a soul. He has to keep his demon in check, but is it really the demon that wants to be brutal and mean and lethal? That's the question. And probably Buffy is getting this point, too. Angel can switch between soul and soulless mode easily, he does this later on a lot; mostly in Ats. Only a few lines or a short remark, but it hits home and is pure Angelus. I love to see him lurking beneath!
